The Dominican Republic offers "great value for money" to anyone investing in property on the island, it has been claimed.

According to Tony Knowles, director of London International Property, anyone looking to invest in the country will get more for their money than if they were buying in near neighbours such as St Lucia or St Kitts.

He added that like most of the Caribbean nations, the Dominican Republic offers opportunities for those looking to rent to holidaymakers.

Mr Knowles said: "It’s one of the biggest tourist destinations worldwide and has one of the longest rental seasons. The north [of the Dominican Republic] is particularly attractive.

"If you look at the prices they’re charging against other villas around golf courses throughout the Caribbean, it’s substantially cheaper."

The country's tourist board says the Dominican Republic offers holidaymakers a variety of attractions including eco-tourism, "effervescent nightlife", outdoor activities such as golf and boating, as well as a selection of beaches.
